The El Tovar Hotel, built in 1905 and a member of Historic Hotels of America® since 2012 was designated by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark in 1974. Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation® for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels across America. Opening its doors in 1905, El Tovar Hotel, a former Harvey House, is considered the premier lodging facility at the Grand Canyon. Constructed of native stone and Oregon pine, this historic hotel was built as a destination resort and provides an air of venerable dignity. Its location is a mere 20 feet from the rim of the canyon and is one of only a handful of Harvey House facilities still in operation. The hotel features the canyon's premier dining facility, El Tovar Dining Room, and an elegant gift shop with unique gifts and apparel.
