Dworshak National Fish Hatchery
Clearwater County, Idaho
Overview
Dworshak National Fish Hatchery, operated by the Nez Perce Tribe and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is one of the largest fish hatcheries in the world. The hatchery preserves Idaho B-steelhead, which are known for their large size. Dworshak also produces Chinook and coho salmon. While here, visitors might watch the spawning of fish from the viewing deck; or see other stages of hatchery fish production. Call ahead for a guided tour, or walk around to learn on your own. Interpretive signs tell the story of the fish, the hatchery, and the Nez Perce. A stop at nearby Dworshak Dam compliments nicely.
