Lahonntan National Fish Hatchery Complex

Douglas County, Nevada

Overview

The Lahontan National Fish Hatchery Complex operates the Hatchery and the Marble Bluff Fish Facility. The complex plans and implements coordinated management and recovery activities for the endangered Cui-ui (Chasmistes cujus) of Pyramid Lake and threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout (Onchorynchus clarki henshawi) within the Interior Basins Ecoregion. Marble Bluff Fish Facility is critical to moving the endangered Cui ui around the dam. A "fish lock" acts like an elevator that brings the fish up to the river so that they can spawn in the river. The best time to visit is during spring spawning runs, Mid April to Mid May. Lahontan cutthroat trout are raised at the Lahontan Fish Hatchery for recovery purposes and for stocking for recreational fishing. You can visit the Hatchery Monday - Friday from 7:30 - 3:30.
