Summit County, Ohio
Overview
The Archives of the History of American Psychology was established at the University of Akron in 1965 to promote research in the history of psychology. Since then, it has grown into one of the largest archival collections in psychology anywhere in the world. The manuscript collection includes the papers of more than 700 psychologists, including B. F. Skinner and Abraham Maslow. Holdings also include testing equipment and apparatus. A current goal is to provide greater outreach and awareness of the significant role psychology played in 20th century America. The archives also collects materials from traditionally underrepresented groups in psychology and held a national conference on the contributions of African American psychologists last year.
