Buckhorn Panel
Emery County, Utah
Overview
Visitors to the Buckhorn Wash panel enjoy viewing one of the most spectacular examples of Barrier Canyon style rock art. The ghostly red figures here stand watch over the San Rafael River. The site includes both painted (Pictographs) and pecked (Petroglyph) prehistoric images. In addition, the site also includes a boulder on which members of a CCC crew working on installing a CCC bridge across the canyon carved their names. But the rock art isn't the only attraction at this site. The panel is located in scenic sandstone canyon on the San Rafael river which offers dramatic views with the changing light throughout the day. This is a perfect place for a family to enjoy a picnic under the shade structure before continuing on their adventures throughout the San Rafael Swell. Facilities include a short hiking trail, interpretive panels, a pit toilet, and a shade structure with picnic tables.
